At Thermen Berendonck, we are fully committed to sustainability. The more sustainable our thermen, the more you can enjoy a relaxing day—or days—without unnecessary impact on the environment. Focused on minimizing our ecological footprint, we take responsibility and are making great strides towards a more sustainable world.
How Green is Thermen Berendonck?
Thermen Berendonck is committed to protecting the environment without compromising quality and comfort for our guests. How does that work?
1. Heat Recovery System (HRS): We utilize a heat recovery system where excess heat, such as from the kitchen, is filtered from odors and used to heat the building. Floor cooling extracts heat from the saunas, which is then reused for underfloor heating in the sauna square. Additionally, Thermen Berendonck employs multiple heat pumps, offering an environmentally friendly solution for sustainable heating.
2. Energy-Efficient Lighting: A smart energy-saving measure at Thermen Berendonck is our lighting system. Both indoor and outdoor lighting use high-efficiency LED lights with a high lumen output per watt. The lighting is also controlled by motion sensors and managed through a building management system.
3. Water Conservation: We have implemented measures to conserve water, such as capturing the heat from wastewater in showers and reusing it to warm other sources. The resort also features water-saving showerheads.
4. Solar Power: Thermen Berendonck currently has more than 600 solar panels installed on the roof. When we renovate the parking area, carports with additional solar panels will be added.
Furthermore, we are thinking green about your transportation! We have 10 charging stations for electric cars available for our guests.

... We pump our own spring water for use in showers, toilets, and baths? This water meets drinking water quality standards.
... The 600 solar panels on the roof generate over 195,000 kWh, which is equivalent to powering more than 45 households.
... The wood used in our new construction is sourced from FSC-certified forests, ensuring sustainable forest management. New trees are planted to prevent deforestation.
... The Chaay Ghar sauna is built in the style of an Indian tea house, fully insulated with hemp blocks and covered with clay. This technique provides comfortable humidity, a pleasant climate, and helps retain heat in the sauna for longer.
... As a guest, you can contribute by always taking a shower after your sauna session before entering our pools! This helps keep the water cleaner and reduces the need for frequent draining.
